THE CAUSEWAY MIRACLE

Posted by: Linda Wolf

We were so sad when we heard a few weeks ago that the Colchester Causeway connecting travellers from the mainland to the Lake Champlain Islands would be closed for the season due to massive storm damage. Luckily, the town of Colchester recognized the importance of the causeway for summer outdoor recreation and have partnered with the Vermont Agency of Transportation and the Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department to rebuild the path. If you’re planning your trip to Burlington to stay with us at our unique, urban-chic bed and breakfast in the heart of downtown Burlington, don’t forget your bicycle! The Local Motion Bike Ferry expects to begin running in early July, allowing more than 16,000 summer explorers to cross the cut and explore the islands. Here’s what you should do once you deboard the ferry:

  1. Enjoy a wine tasting at Snow Farm Vineyard & Winery
  2. Snap a few photos at the Bird House Forest
  3. Grab a maple creemee and pet the farm donkey at Allenholm Farm
  4. Peruse the Champlain Islands Farmer’s Market at St. Joseph’s Church, Saturdays from 10 am to 2 pm
